Looking back on 2012 & Touching New Years resolutions

As we head to a new year some may reflect on their achievements in 2012. Others will only look ahead, what's past has past and cannot be changed. Well for the fun of it I will try and achieve both. 2012 did see the Touchers go back to back to back but it also saw great improvements in player skills and ability...well in most anyway. In 2012 who can forget the post game speeches from the The Chairman. I believe the big man hit his peak during the 'VC Gate' saga. His wish for 2013 is simple...another premiership. For the VC he had a troubled 2012. The suspension in match award points cut deeply and had him questioning his loyalty to Touching. Looking ahead his goal is a 4th premiership and once again lay claim as the best Toucher in suburban over 35's touch footy. Due to legal proceedings being settled I am obliged to state the following; It's at this time that I wish to make a correction on the Finals edition of the blog. It was the VC who made the pass t...

Twas the night before a Touching Christmas

With the Touchers having a well deserved break after the back to back to back premiership victory, the Touchers are looking forward to seeing many presents under the tree. I hope this simple ditty will inspire much Christmas cheer amongst them all. It was narrated by the Chairman and as I listened with tears of joy in my eyes I jotted down his wise words. ------ Twas the night before Christmas and all through Terrey Hills, not a creature was moving, not even the possum in the roof. The footy bags were hung by the garages with care. In hope that the footy gods soon would be there. The Touchers fans were nestled all snug in their beds, Whilst visions of a 4th premiership danced in their heads. And Chairmans dear wife in her custom Belrose footy nightie and me in my Touchers grand final winning t-shirt, Had just settled down for a cold lime infused beer. When out on the prize winning new lawn, I sprang from my bed to see what the heck was going on. Away to the window I...

Our Proudest moment - The Chairman

Touchers take their third premiership in a row   2012 premiers Against all odds the OverTouchers continued their domination of the "Over 35's" competition after the toughest night in club history. Coming into Finals night in 4th place, the players knew that if a three peat was to be achieved then they had to be at their best over the next 60 minutes and win 3 games in a row. Starting the night with 13 players it was all hands on deck. Knowing that Faz and Kiwi were still carrying injuries, Harro came out of an enforced retirement to be on deck, if his services were required.  The semi final was played against last weeks opposition, Sodens Warriors. The Touchers started impressively despite the opposition fielding as many under 35s as over 35s. But this time the defending premiers would not be denied.  A flying Supercoach Bill scored down the far right side and that one try was enough to take the Touchers through to the Final. Faz ruled himself...

Harro has offered his services for the season ending gala FAZ: Waiting to hear Milton: Waiting to hear Those who are unconfirmed are: Bulldog, The Body, Rolls Royce, Roller Door The Chairman will inform the playing roster of the start times and other details for the post match function. Yours still looking at myself in the mirror FMJ

Youth beats Age again

"the season starts again next Thursday 7.30" - The Chairman Last nights game started in controversy with Soden's Warriors fielding at least 5 troops younger than 22 and only 2 above 35. The Touchers "comments" before the start of the game fell on deaf ears. But going down 4-2 in their 3rd loss of the season sees the Touchers finish 3rd behind the South African team and an old nemesis and past grand finnal losing team, Koch's mob. The Touchers were competitive and the score at 3-2 with a few minutes to go showed that to be true. This was always going to be a tough game as it was a 3 vs 4 encounter with only the Touchers superior for and against seperating them on the table. Despite the youth in the legs of the Soden's Warriors, the Touchers chose to rage against the dying of the light and stood tall. At half time the Touchers were down 2-0 and were looking for answers. It was the up tempo defence from the Touchers that sapped their strengt...

Tense week for Touchers

Big week for Touchers with semi finals berth in the balance The playing group and administrators have had a tense few days since their win last Thursday evening. Non sanctioned meetings and discussions have been held in the streets and over back fences discussing matters that could bring the organisation into disrepute. Those who are formerly on a 1st warning are Bob The Builder and BBB who participated afore mentioned breaches. A second breach may not see them get off as lightly as they did on this occassion. A formal letter will shortly be sent to all contracted players and full time and part time administrators. Advising them that they are bound under their contracts and intern the club constitution, to at all times behave in a manner befitting the brilliance of an Overtoucher. Any breaking of the rules will have the player or administrator brought to the Fines sub-committee chaired by Milt at which time he shall decide the persons fate. If required, this session will be h...

Touchers hit back with a big victory

After much nashing of teeth and demands the match report was written 38,000 feet above sea level as I whisk my way to Mauritius for the bi-annual front rowers conference. Halfbacks and wingers are not allowed to attend. Coming off the back of their first loss in their age group, the Overtouchers responded this week in the only way they know how and put together a complete performance to win 5-0. The lockout was helped by the fact that The Chairman and the VC had recruited fresh meat with injury clouds hanging over the team. With 12 players in attendence the defending premiers were able to sub players on and off at will. New members, Sniper, who got off a nude run and scored in his season 2012 debut and [B&D] Roller Door became the 15th and 16th players to pull on the gun metal grey game day shirts. Once again the Touchers went into the clash without Harro, lost to another game. Milt complications onset from prolonged period of Gout. Kiwi who was cut down in his prime, but m...

A Perfect Storm takes down the Touchers

Touchers lose 5-2 in dour affair With another player falling to the growing injury list the Touchers were no match for the undefeated opposition last Thursday night. With Bob The Builder, The Locksmith and FMJ all suffering from PMTBRF [Post Mountain Bike Race Fatigue] and Jonty falling to the 2012 team curse, a soft tissue leg injury before half time, the Overtouchers title defence looks in tatters. Along with injury and fatigue, The Chairman had to be taken off the drip at Mona Vale Hospital just to take part in the clash. Adding to the perfect storm the VC was summonsed to Canberra to explain why he should be allowed to stay in the country after his recent misdemeanors on and off the field. Bulldog went out in protest and was also not available to play. Lots of excuses...I agree. But the other team were better and 'younger' on the day and the Touchers were in no mood for serious touching. More reasons could be given for such a lacklustre performance. Th...

Overtouchers keep rolling on

" I'll take contr ol " Vice Captain steadies the ship in the absence of The Chairman Harro RETIRED Kiwi OUT season torn calf Milton OUT with Gout Locksmith OUT Saving lives Faz OUT lasted 30 seconds before falling to injury Supercoach Bill OUT On assignment The Chairman AWOL  The Overtouchers injury list, looking a lot like the 2012 Wallabies. P laying under suspension of man of the match points and another pending Board appearance the Vice Captain showed the way on a dark and stormy night when the Chairman had gone missing. With the playing roster extended this week to accommodate the players unavailable, the Board activated two new recruits in Rolls Royce and The Body.  The player count for season 2012 is now at 15. The highest in the clubs three seasons. The Board announced at a hastily convened extraordinary session after the presentations to declare that a post season investigation will be undertaken . T he guidelines to be ba...

Blue collar performance from Touchers

Chairman marshal's his troops On the back of another hot windy Spring day the two time premiership champions, The Overtouchers, ground out another blue collar effort against an outfit desperate for its first win of the season. The opposition were not to be awarded such an honour against the might of the mountain men from Terrey Hills as the champions won 9 -1. The Touchers roared out of the gates and quickly set the tone. It was a tactic the Chairman called for as they went into the game without four of their fellow Touchers. Supercoach Bill was on assignment in Far North Queensland. Faz's has leg has not responded to the TLC from the Grolly man of The Foo'ies. Faz is considered a week to week proposition.  The Kiwi, after last weeks injury has been diagnosed with 4 x 2 cm tear of the calf and we bid farewell to season 2012 for the big man and Harro who still retains the honour of a mention in retirement for the 2012 season...only. More on that later in the bulletin...
