Looking back on 2012 & Touching New Years resolutions

As we head to a new year some may reflect on their achievements in 2012. Others will only look ahead, what's past has past and cannot be changed.

Well for the fun of it I will try and achieve both.

2012 did see the Touchers go back to back to back but it also saw great improvements in player skills and ability...well in most anyway.

In 2012 who can forget the post game speeches from the The Chairman. I believe the big man hit his peak during the 'VC Gate' saga. His wish for 2013 is simple...another premiership.

For the VC he had a troubled 2012. The suspension in match award points cut deeply and had him questioning his loyalty to Touching. Looking ahead his goal is a 4th premiership and once again lay claim as the best Toucher in suburban over 35's touch footy.

Due to legal proceedings being settled I am obliged to state the following;

It's at this time that I wish to make a correction on the Finals edition of the blog. It was the VC who made the pass to the Bulldog to create a saloon passage for Jonty to score that try.

I hope this correction will suspend any further and all litigation activity threatened by the VC to this publisher !!!

It was another classic year for Supercoach Bill and his on field clashes with his nemesis The Chairman were pretty to watch. In 2013 he is looking to create a demonstration video of outside backs defensive techniques and play it on constant rotation for the Chairman.

2012 was a breakthrough year for Big Bad Brett. He will have strong leverage at the contract negotiation table. His plans for January through to October is to work on some techniques to improve his chances of winning the players player title two years in a row like the VC did in 2010 and 2011.

In this year past, Jonty was one of the two Touchers who played every game. This level of resilience was looked on highly by the clubs board. Jonty has declared that in 2013 he will be attacking the Palm Beach sand hills to strengthen his hammy and build on his speed. Who can forget the last minute match winning try in the final to take the Touchers into the GF.

Bob the Builder also had a breakthrough season with two man of the match awards. His aggression in defence put the fear of the greats in the opposing teams. His goal for 2013, a simple one......finish his damn house before the next season starts. Early bookings for the 2013 post season celebrations have been taken for his shed in his new residence.

Coming off a disrupted pre-season, Locksmith found that a month in the USofA ain't the best training regime for such an arduous campaign. However, his Herculean effort in the GF is now one of folklore and will be told to others in hushed tones for many many years to come. The new year holds big hopes for the three time premiership champion.

Faz was another seasoned Toucher had a disrupted championship season but Faz found great joy in breaking the shackles of the Foo Fighters when they allowed. With the Fooeys on a world wide tour in the season ahead we hope to see a lot more of the smiling assassin.

It was an ongoing tale of woe for our Milton in 2012. With a massive step up in his career and sharing the pleasures of building with Bob on his new shack in Duffys and an ageing hamstring, there was little time for Touching in 2012. However, he did provide a season highlight when he invited Bieber to play in round two. The two put on some great passages of play that brought a tear to even the driest eye. In 2013 Milton has commented that he will remain a Touchers, if the other Touchers will let him!!!

The VC delivered a great hew recruit in inviting Kiwi to join the Touchers. The hard man took a lot of the workload off the other straight runners in the team and gained a lot of yards. With this gap now filled by fresher fitter legs, it has some other Touchers staring down the barrel of retirement!!!

The Lazarus highlight of the 2012th year of The Lord was our man Harro. When push came to shove it was Harro who stood tall. Unfortunately though he declares 2012 as doing the 'double double'. With the Sydney Gooses winning the VFL competition he felt its prestige matched that of the Touchers three-peat.

With career saving therapy on his weary legs, the sponsors and crowds look forward to a stellar 2013 for the man they call HARRO.

In closing out the final story of 2012, this little black duck would like to give a big thank you to the millions who partake in the pleasures these stories bring.

Yours in hopefully a very Touching New Years...... best wishes

FMJ

Our Proudest moment - The Chairman

Touchers take their third premiership in a row   2012 premiers Against all odds the OverTouchers continued their domination of the "Over 35's" competition after the toughest night in club history. Coming into Finals night in 4th place, the players knew that if a three peat was to be achieved then they had to be at their best over the next 60 minutes and win 3 games in a row. Starting the night with 13 players it was all hands on deck. Knowing that Faz and Kiwi were still carrying injuries, Harro came out of an enforced retirement to be on deck, if his services were required.  The semi final was played against last weeks opposition, Sodens Warriors. The Touchers started impressively despite the opposition fielding as many under 35s as over 35s. But this time the defending premiers would not be denied.  A flying Supercoach Bill scored down the far right side and that one try was enough to take the Touchers through to the Final. Faz ruled himself...

Reflection through the haze of smoke

This author has embellished, laid the blame, stuck the knife in, run the gauntlet and sometimes written about the game in the evenings past. This week shall be like no other. The Touchers, after strong off season player buys, have started the season 4-0. They sit atop the table in wins and the 'for and against' tally. In the early rounds of the season I have made the conscious decision to observe rather than contribute. Taking this back seat on Thursdays I have been able to reflect on 7 years of Touching. Including that last season which shall not be mentioned were Touching was not enough, you had to grab at sweat laden cloth tags off the hips of young chiselled opponents. Well I think I did it once across the 10 games. In these reflective moments I have seen the will to win, the wanting to prove a point, the sheer determination to run from dummy half without passing despite for the last 7 years being reminded that its a low percentage play. With the playing roster fu...

A Perfect Storm takes down the Touchers

Touchers lose 5-2 in dour affair With another player falling to the growing injury list the Touchers were no match for the undefeated opposition last Thursday night. With Bob The Builder, The Locksmith and FMJ all suffering from PMTBRF [Post Mountain Bike Race Fatigue] and Jonty falling to the 2012 team curse, a soft tissue leg injury before half time, the Overtouchers title defence looks in tatters. Along with injury and fatigue, The Chairman had to be taken off the drip at Mona Vale Hospital just to take part in the clash. Adding to the perfect storm the VC was summonsed to Canberra to explain why he should be allowed to stay in the country after his recent misdemeanors on and off the field. Bulldog went out in protest and was also not available to play. Lots of excuses...I agree. But the other team were better and 'younger' on the day and the Touchers were in no mood for serious touching. More reasons could be given for such a lacklustre performance. Th...
