2015 Yearly Report

As we close the book on 2015 we can take a moment to pause and share our views...well essentially mine....on how the OverTouchers became Mountain Men in 2015. The year opened with the back half of the Touch Football season at Narrabeen. The Touchers were on point in each game especially the now fabled Grand Final in which the men from the top of the hill lost 4-2 in a contest seen by some as more spiteful and vicious than the 1976 Grand Final between Manly and Cronulla. The men lost that day to boys and moved on as you sensed there were new Mountains to climb. What started out as an innocent run by two men and a dog one wet Autumn Saturday morning, forged into a group of men who now run up and down dale through the valleys of the Garigal National Park. Shortly followed by coffee and discussion on the matters of the day.  Now I am not one to start a rumour but the story is told in the halls of Parliament House in Canberra that it was one of these post run coffee sessions tha...

Old guys make a run for the Finals

As I was driven eastward on Mona Vale road last evening on the way home, I looked to the dark spring sky and saw that the moon was as full as cheap bottle of wine. My Driver, the VC, was babbling on about how great he played and that for me to write the report was pivotal on the world knowing of his greatness. I tried hard to listen but the siren's song of the Sea of Tranquility on the moon's surface drew me away from his constant vitriol on his elite performance in which the Men formerly known as the OverTouchers overcame another bunch of young Bucks and one Deer. Taking a looping pass from his toes, Bulldog scored a magnificent try in the shadows of the post to take the score to 7-6 and register their first official win of the 2016 season which puts the team up into Finals contention. The sound of the hooter was akin to the old guys victory call from high atop the Hills of Terrey. Now I have referred to the term 'old guys' and  'young bucks' and I do...

Now Trading as: Monster Mountain Men

Editor's Note With the season kicking off with a 14-2 loss, this author didn't have the inspiration for match reports.  Maybe it was a lack of good material, maybe the concern that I'd run out of the stories that brought upon me rave reviews and offers of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Maybe it was just depleting testosterone levels. Who knows.  But after reviewing the terms of reference of the corporation I am obliged to at worst make a token effort. So under duress please see these modest words below for this weeks match report.  --------- Artist formerly known as OverTouchers Neil Young sang 'Comes a Time' way back in 1978 from the album of the same name. The lyrics spoke of realisation of your path in life Comes a time when you're driftin' Comes a time when you settle down Comes a light feelin's liftin' Lift that baby right up off the ground Well many Touchers at the final whistle in the Grand Final loss to the young bucks ba...

Diversification

diversify Dictionary.com tells us that the term diversify as a verb as an object ,  diversified, diversifying is to make diverse, as in form or character; give variety or diversity to; variegate. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As I stand with calcified knee and aching back up on the high lofty rocky ledge high above the escarpment that surrounds Terrey Hills and Duffy's Forest, with littered crushed VB cans at my feet and the crumbs of many abandoned corn chips, I see before me many men who have gone on to forge new adventures. New adventures that go well beyond the simple game of Touch Football. The Chairman saw a vision in his corporation and has made is true. The Over Touchers were always to be more than men who run around at the behest of an official with a whistle. The men of the OT were to go forth and conquer. Well I use that term loosely, but to conquer a challenge within onese...

Is this the end? Will there be no more Touching?

After 5 years of concerted Touching the men from the Hills may be calling it a day. Word from inside sources is that the men are starting to look for new challenges. After losing 7-5 in a tight fought game in their 5th grand final in a row Tuesday night, two of the Touchers stalwarts stood side by side at the presentation asking each other what the emotion was that they felt about going around again next season. At the time the word didn't come to mind but now after a couple of days reflection I feel that word is enthusiasm. The Touchers do not lack commitment nor competitiveness, that is clearly evident in the manner in which they played Tuesday night. With almost a full squad there on the night, the was no lack of wanting to get the job done.  Please note that I do caveat all comment made here in stating that is only a C Grade Touch Footy competition we are talking about. However, even at this level the team showed character elements they should all ...

C Mc gives her account

Guest writer, C Mc, daughter of Supercoach, sister to son of Supercoach gave her account of the Touchers loss last night 8-6 in this report ----------- Tonight on the 10/2/15 the boys put in 110% tonight. Down 3 tries to at half time! Rookie Declan helped with some great fielding and fantastic passes, as well as Bernie who had a sore knee still tried his hardest. As this was written or started at halftime I came up with the idea of writing my own story inspired by FMJ. As I noticed that the boys were quick from dummy half and they also went back all the way when touched. Yelling and running as that was the game tonight with a few tries and a few penalties along the way. Touch footy is a game for everyone, no matter how tall or how small, how fast or how slow touch footy is for everyone and all of you should be proud for giving it a go! As tonight we had on the field and beside the field of play we had a total of 8 Overtouchers". ------------ A clear an...

"Soft Launch " Chairman

Post match interviews with the Chairman saw him quote last nights first game back after the Holiday break as a 'Soft launch'. With many Touchers on assignment and not able to make the opening game of the second half of the competition; the VC counted off just 7 players that were there to take the field and Touch. Looking down the touchline there didn't see many numbers there in the opponents line up. A collective sigh arose from the 7 Touchers. The opposition scrounged up some ring ins and it wasn't clear if they called a no match, so with confusion across the park, the VC called in the troops and screamed that we go for the throat. It seems that the Rookie, Supercoach and  BBB were listening. Chairman, Locksmith and I were off to the side discussing other things, like the plight of the 3rd world and their debt crisis. With the opposition pushing a little harder than a team looking to to just throw the ball around, the Rookie chose this balmy night to demonstrat...
