Touchers snort the sweet smell of victory

It was around September that I sat in close quarters with the Chairman as we plotted the playing list for the 2016 Touchers. The roster was at 16 on that cool spring day. We thought then it was too many. We deliberated over player skill on and off the paddock. Not that anyone was in true danger of losing their accreditation as a Toucher. As our creed stands as 'Once an OverToucher, always and OverToucher'. The decision had been made minutes after the completion of the 2015 season that shall not be mentioned, that we would return to the fields of glory and bring down the wrath of redemption after 3 years in the wilderness. If I think hard, I believe that over the years there have been about 30 Toucher's in our squad. To name them all would be superfluous to the needs of this little story, plus how can I remember them all after 7 years. But the core group has been there for those 7 years and there have been ups and downs. Moments of madness many times and I will share...

Injuries could bring down the Touchers

Well after two weeks of condemnation I am compelled to write just a few words this crisp spring  morning. Having been carried by my long suffering wife to the keyboard at 6am, due to a torturous injury suffered in last nights battle, I sit here in pain and torment as my nervous system sends me descriptions of pain, which can only be compared to that of the Amazonian Bullet Ant. Depicted here in full colour, viscous little buggers huh ! I was driven to Royal North Shore soon after midnight thanks to same long suffering wife who then easily carried me from the car park to the front door where I was met by two lusty busty nurses. Who, in seeing my long suffering wife's feat of strength, promptly left me where I was dropped unceremoniously by the love of my life and took her away for a JD n Coke to reward her for her efforts. Having been left there I crawled on my belly, past reception, to the lifts . Reaching up with a tiring arm pressed Level 5 on the button wh...

Reflection through the haze of smoke

This author has embellished, laid the blame, stuck the knife in, run the gauntlet and sometimes written about the game in the evenings past. This week shall be like no other. The Touchers, after strong off season player buys, have started the season 4-0. They sit atop the table in wins and the 'for and against' tally. In the early rounds of the season I have made the conscious decision to observe rather than contribute. Taking this back seat on Thursdays I have been able to reflect on 7 years of Touching. Including that last season which shall not be mentioned were Touching was not enough, you had to grab at sweat laden cloth tags off the hips of young chiselled opponents. Well I think I did it once across the 10 games. In these reflective moments I have seen the will to win, the wanting to prove a point, the sheer determination to run from dummy half without passing despite for the last 7 years being reminded that its a low percentage play. With the playing roster fu...

SEVEN YEAR ITCH

Good morning and welcome to season 2016 I will start with an apology in regards to my non-attendance last week for the season opener and hence no match report. I have been told by sources close to me that BBB and the VC were commanding in their games. However, I have no proof, so as far as I am concerned, it never happened. As the Toucher's head into their 7th year of Touching you sensed apprehension, anxiety and a touch of gout on the big left toe. The chronicle of truth, Wikipedia, tells us that the 'The seven-year itch is a psychological term that suggests that happiness in a relationship declines after around year seven of a marriage.' Now let me just talk to that point for a moment. In our first 3 years we were Undefeated [except for that ill fated game when we were illegitimately matched against a Gen Y team in year 3] and 3 times Champions. But like any meaningful relationship we wanted more. So we left for the fields of Narrabeen, only to lose in dual Gr...

Spring time means OverTouching

As the flowery smell of Spring starts to cover the spacious grass covered lawns of Terrey Hills, the need for OverTouching returns to those special men who yearn to return the field of Touching. Its been 6 years of battle for the leading men of Touching. However, the last three campaigns have seen the trophy cabinet laid bare of silverware. After 3 years of glory, the Mountain Men went on the road seeking new challenges. Back to back Grand Final losses on the low lands by the seaside, moved the corporation to make a dramatic shift in strategy going into year 6.  The corporation voted on a change to the company charter. In a close vote that required the Chairman to exercise his casting vote to carry the motion. For those who didn't get past 8th Grade at school, Wikipedia, the source of all truth, tells us that; A casting vote is a vote which may be exercised (usually in addition to his or her normal vote as a member of the body, if he or she has one) by the presiding off...
