Chamber to Champion, Jonty ends touching 2013 in style

Going into a new competition in 2013 the Touchers had many challenges in front of them. Distance, anxiety, proper referees and ageing soft tissue.

All of the Touchers took on these challenges and the calendar year has seen no losses for some of the greatest touchers of all time.

Jonty stood tall alongside his fellow touchers and overcame soft tissue damage. The speedster went to extreme measures to ensure his 100% attendance record was maintained in 2013.

Jonty sought out the benefits of hyperbaric chamber injury management and embraced it...some would say a little too much.
The source of truth Wikipedia, thats right BBB I have ignored your plea of sanity in information gathering, Wikipedia tells us this about Hyperbaric medicine:

Hyperbaric medicine, also known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), is the medical use of oxygen at a level higher than atmospheric pressure. The equipment required consists of a pressure chamber, which may be of rigid or flexible construction, and a means of delivering 100% oxygen. Operation is performed to a predetermined schedule by trained personnel who monitor the patient and may adjust the schedule as required.

Jonty's sublime running was bleeding edge in skill and elusiveness [dont' worry, its a real word]. His performance had him take the Players Player award with ease in last evening victory over Kiwi's marauders.

It was with a heavy heart that the Touchers took Kiwi's development team to the sword in the fashion they did. You could see a tear in the big man's eye throughout the game. But it was the muttering of 'what have I done....what have i done' that drew great concern from his fellow touchers.

In season 2013/2014 Kiwi was seconded to run a development program and his efforts have been lauded by his peers. He should hold no concerns in that he will be brought back into the top team in 2014/2015 with an upgraded contract.

On this balmy night the Touchers had to endure the presence of injured touchers FMJ and the Rookie on the sideline. We stood there and provided constructive criticism in the manner of two other great assessors of ability.

The game got off to a bumpy start with early tries from each side. There just wasn't the usual chatter from the OT's. With the season ending festivities upon us, minds may well have been elsewhere.

But it wasn't long before the try scoring machines in the VC, BBB and Jonty kicked into gear and the game settled into a true exhibition of Touching.

There year ending fixture drew a special crowd that included family. It was great to see Supercoach's little elves come along, Superfish and Deck the Halls are always welcome. VC's two munchkins in Flash and Alex the great, took on any sporting task drawn to them. Even the Chairman's eldest daughter came along to watch, truly an honor.

It was a joy to see B2's bouncing baby boys watch their fathers game intensely. Their assessment of his performance was not taken so well by B2. Well thats what I gathered when I saw B2 sitting on his youngest's head at half time.

The half time score was 8-2 and the half-time speeches were reflective on the opening stanza; quiet and lacking any direction and strategy.

Overcoming that the Touchers tore the field apart in the second phase of play and try's started coming along with ease.

The play of the day was delivered by the big man of the long white cloud. Kiwi took the ball from the dummy half and glided across the park like he was on roller skates. Looking for runners he delivered a pass like an arrow and in a manner that yours truly would be proud of. He picked out the runner and the pass hit the speedster right in the solar plexus.

Turns out that the speedster was Jonty and he ran the length of the field again to score.

Kiwi, its plays like these that ensure you will be back as soon as your secondment is completed.

Victory looked like it was in the bag so I opened the bar and I took full advantage. My season ending cheer was cut short when there were cries from the field for me to come on and save the day. Throwing on my blue shirt, downing a little pill that the Locksmith gave me and tossing my half full bottle of beer to the ground I took the field with all the vigour of a startled gazelle. A run here, a long looping pass there and soon the train was back on the tracks. Whilst my two minute effort was not my finest hour, it was enough to ensure my contractual obligations were fulfilled.

With the year of 2013 now at an end its time for the year awards presentation.

Best soft tissue injury goes to the following, VC, FMJ, HOF, Jonty, Supercoach and the Chairman. The trophy will be shared across the festive season. The award is awaiting a sponsor but I understand that the sponsorship committee are seeing the makers of Voltaren at a lunch in the city this week.

Best injury overall goes to the Rookie. Suffering a broken hand on a mountain bike ride 5,000 metres above sea level, the zephyr flyer ran his bike into a ditch on what some say was on purpose so as to allow for more study time in outside back defensive play.

Best recruiter goes jointly to Supercoach and BBB in bringing along B1 and B2. The inclusion of their talents have somewhat improved the touching of the Touchers.

Worst recruiter goes to big man Milt. I can't speak first hand but it was the speed in which Skiddys papers were stamped that saw Milt unanimously receive this honor.

Best nicknames do not go to B1 and B2. I tried to run a survey on who should get that award but I failed in that task as well.

The Locksmith wins the perpetual motion award for the 4th year in a row. He wins the award as we are too scared to take it from him as the trophy has his mentor, Ray Price, on it.

The Dame Nellie Melba award goes to the HOF. I suspect he will win it again in 2014. It must feel special that he has won this trophy 4 years in a row.

With the open age competition the Touchers are now in, the corporation can officially embrace the Bulldog [Christian] as a fellow toucher. So the elusive back wins the Lazarus award as he truly has risen again.

In closing out 2013, unless I can think up another story, I wish you all a very touching Christmas and New Year. With the long break ahead, I expect all touchers will be back on deck and fully fit. There will be a fitness test at the Palm Beach sandhills on the Saturday afternoon prior to the first game. Anyone need a lift????

First game back is the 21st of January.

Yours in Touching

FMJ

A Very Touching Christmas

Now that its the 1st of December, so now I can talk about the upcoming festive season we call Christmas. Any mention of Christmas before December incurs a substantial fine in my world. I am sure all of the Touchers in the corporation have written a list of the goodies they want to see under the tree. But I will come back to that as governance dictates that I write at least a few words about the game last night. We drew 3-3 ... thats it. OH I have to write more ????  OKAY G Plummer and the Locksmith almost tied for Man of the Match. However, Locky lost half a point when he passed the pill 6 feet over my head while I was showing the VC how one runs into a gaping hole to get clear and hopefully score the match winning try. I am sure I jumped but its doubtful there was much air between my size 13 cross trainers and the turf at anytime. So with the loss of that half point G Plummer got the trophy last night. Even with the 3 reserves, all of us had nothing left in the tank ...

Ignorance needed in Injury Management

Normally this article provides a detailed assessment and description of the previous nights game by the Championship team know around the world as the 'OverTouchers'. However, a dramatic turn of events had ensured this article take a different turn today. We have all heard of a players second year syndrome but  last weeks Man of the match, Rami, has broken new ground with 2nd game syndrome. Just on 8am this morning, the ball playing big man sent through the following note: "Small tear in the Achilles boys. No running for a few weeks...physio sessions for a while" Now lets just break that down but first strap yourselves in readers, this may hurt a little . I am stunned, nay, amazed how such a diagnosis can be determined within 12 hours of the games completion. Poor old Jonty had also sent through a note after last weeks game that he too had suffered an injury, torn meniscus, within a small amount of hours after the final bell. Now I thought that the pro...

Touchers new blood policy pays dividends

All good corporations have road maps for succession plans and the Toucher's are no different. With the average age of the mighty team getting higher with each day, the sub committee for Growth and Development approved the signing of a new Toucher, RAMI late on Thursday afternoon. I wanted to name him Rookie but the great Rocket has that name in his portfolio despite him being a key member of the team for 6 years. The playing roster was depleted last night, making the new signing brilliant timing. The following were away for different reasons; Scorpion/Sponsor/DG was in far North Queensland again feeding at the trough of corporate indulgence Rocket/Rookie/Leftie/ was away on assignment and wouldn't tell us were. Smith/Legsy was at home with Meningococcal, Ebola and a runny nose R. Plummer the greatest A Grade player of all time was in traction in North Shore Hospital with a hurty back BBB was of trekking to the base camp of Mt Kosciusko. Shouldn't be too ha...
